To anyone that reads this, or has read this, or will read this, apologies on major lack of updates.
Basically what is in my portfolio is the last I have done in CG, which is about 6 months ago, ish. I am still working at the job in my last post, in fact I somewhat, sort of stole the job from the guy I was covering for. Though to be truthful he wasn't any good at the job anyways, not that that quite makes it alright but it does make me feel better, and my girlfriend now has someone at work she can rely on.
I have been drawing however, trying to anyways. Nothing major but I do try to draw at least SOMETHING everyday, and I try to draw from perspectives that I am unused to. I try to challenge my mind to view objects, people, etc in depth, and in poses that are intentionally harder to think about. I figure that way if I get good at the harder stuff first then the easier stuff is a breeze!
So the current CG Challenge is running having just started up. Steampunk, one of my favorite (and I suspect many others) topics! I MAY join this time around but we shall see, I just don't have the time lately to do any art stuff, though I digress. It is not that I don't have the time, it's that the time I DO have I would rather do other things like get back to playing games.
I recently bought an Xbox360 (gamertag = GetaVe) and I have to say I was/am very surprised on how gamer oriented the whole system is. Everything you do (so to speak) affects your status as a gamer. The games you play, the achievements you ... achieve, the people you play with (who can rate you accordingly), everything revolves around the game and your 'person' in the XB world. I admit that I quite like the experience. It helps as well that I have several top quality games to choose from right off the bat. All of which I have beat (that is major for my game playing habits where 80% of the games I buy I never complete).
Gears of War - Beat
Gears of War 2 - Just Beat (DAMN fine game)
Fable 2 - Beat
Castle Crashers - Beat
And I will probably keep playing these games just for the achievements alone.
The way in which XB handles their achievement system (comparing to Playstation) is quite nice too. There is something tangible, palpable even, about a numeric system keeping track of your achievements. I am almost up to 2000 points as of this blog entry and excited to keep going. Where Playstation uses a percentage and leveling system it just doesn't hold any weight. Sure I am level 'whatever' but what is that value worth? If we are counting levels then how much experience have I actually acquired? In my opinion a hybrid system would do well. where the numeric value from XB exists yet keeps the leveling system with it.
In fact, throw in some kind of rudimentary avatar MMO into the fray, where every game you play, achievement/trophy you unlock garners you new abilities, weapons, armour, etc.
I wish I could copyright that idea... :P
